Bethany Bible Church came into existence in the 1970s when Lake Havasu City was
being developed. They met in the Junior Chamber of Commerce building and
then in a Funeral Home and then in a Senior Citizen's Center. The church
communicated with SBCM and in 1983 Terry Skalland assumed the pastorate.
In 1984 the church became a member of the I.F.C.A. A piece of property was
purchased in 1985. In 1988, then General Director of SBCM, Jerry Adams
agreed to an interim ministry at the church. He and his wife, Bobbie, commuted
the 200 mile distance from Tempe on the week-ends for over a year. Then it
became obvious they need to move to Lake Havasu City to continue the work. He
continued as pastor and directing the SBCM mission. Soon he resigned from
the mission to be full time pastor of Bethany Bible Church.
As the church developed, a building project became necessary. In 1991 ground breaking for the new building took place. Most of the work was done by volunteers from the church, from Hard Hats for Christ and even a team from Tempe Bible Church went to help on one occasion.
The current ministries at Bethany Bible Church is a Christian School, which serves grades 1 to 12, administered by Mrs. Adams Another ministry is the Seasoned Saints ministry. The Bible Quiz Team ministry has been an important part of Bethany Bible Church for several years. The team has participated in Quizzing in Arizona and in at least three national IFCA Youth Conventions.
Because Lake Havasu City is quite a tourist attraction with many winter visitors, the attendance varies a lot. Many more people attend in the winter than in the hot, hot summer. About 12% of the annual budget goes to missions both foreign and home.
The purpose of Bethany Bible Church is stated in the church constitution: "It
shall be the purpose of this church to minister the Word of God for the
salvation of souls, the edification of Christians, the world-wide proclamation
of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and the promotion of Godly worship."
